In November of 2007 I was working behind the scenes at the R. Michelson Gallery in Northampton, MA while Leonard Nimoy photographed models for his project that would become “Secret Selves”. That project is now complete and Nimoy’s work will be on display at the R. Michelson Gallery beginning this Thursday, July 29th, when Nimoy himself will be in attendance autographing copies of his new book. The event is open to the public.
On Saturday July 31st, life size prints from “Secret Selves” will be on display at Mass MoCA in North Adams, MA where Nimoy will be on hand during an invitation only event. Both exhibits are ongoing and specific dates can be obtained through their respective web sites.
You can read more about Nimoy’s “Secret Selves” photography project on the Boston Globe’s web site here, and on masslive.com here.
Here are some of my behind the scenes photos from the making of Leonard Nimoy’s “Secret Selves”…
- Nimoy spoke with each model before he photographed them, trying to ascertain their secret self.
- Nimoy chats with a model off camera while Richard and Marisa Michelson look on in the background.
- Rocking out while being photographed by Nimoy.
- Northampton Mayor Claire Higgins was one of Nimoy’s models.
- Painter Matt Mitchell poses for Nimoy.
- Photographer and author Jeanne Birdsall brought one of her cameras along to be photographed along with her.
- Leonard Nimoy talks with a model off camera.
- Some behind the scenes footage from the making of “Secret Selves”.
- One of my favorite photos from the day of Nimoy enjoying himself, caught up in the moment working on his project.
